A Day In The Life

Freedom Prep has reimagined the traditional schedule to deliver a unique and effective learning experience.

Our Online Guided schedule includes 3-days per week of guided instruction for the ideal blend of freedom, structure, and support. Students meet virtually Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays to set goals, conquer tasks, and collaborate with peers as their classroom Guide facilitates and monitors their progress. Outside of class time, students complete an additional 5 bonus hours of extracurricular activity or independent study each week. See a typical daily schedule below:

8:20 AM

1. Individual Preparation

Students begin their day by logging into their online classroom, reviewing email, and reflecting on prior tasks, successes, and challenges.

2. Community Circle (Video Connect)

With computers on, everyone connects briefly for a Community Circle. A Community Circle is video chat session for students and guides to engage in a safe discussion without judgment. What makes Community Circle different from a Collaborate Session, is that it is explicitly focused on building community among students. During this time the guide or student leader helps facilitate an activity or discussion and encourages everyone to participate.

3. Stand-Up Goals (Video Connect)

It's Goal Time. This is a quick and fun activity where students share their daily Math and Reading goals with the class.

With our mastery based curriculum, students can access the entirety of their courses online. This allows them to view lectures and complete quizzes on-demand and at their own pace. To help with focus and accountability, students share what percent of their whole class they intend to complete that day. For Math and ELA, most students aim to complete about 1-2% of their course each day (or 5% per week for a 3-day week).

4. Conquer

Here we go. Conquer mode is the time when students advance through their individual core subjects with a primary focus on Math and English Language Arts (ELA). Students will access grade-specific Math and ELA courses and advance through lessons and practice problems at their own pace. Meanwhile, their guide monitors their progress and provides support and intervention as needed.

Students can also conquer additional subjects such as History, Science, Foreign Language, Music, or Art as time allows.

Individual time spent per subject may vary, below is a recommended schedule during Conquer block:

  • Math (60 minutes)
  • ELA (60 minutes)
  • Student Choice (60 minutes)

5. Read Aloud: (VIDEO CONNECT)

One of the most powerful things a student can gain from school is a love for stories and reading, which is why we make time in our day to read and discuss captivating stories and novels. Through screen sharing technology, everyone can follow along with their guide. Students are free to multitask during this time and drawing, coloring, and simply relaxing is encouraged.

6. Collaborate: (VIDEO CONNECT)

Collaborate mode includes discussion, debate, and consideration of relevant topics. Classes can even arrange for special guests to join their virtual discussion.

While initially led by the classroom guide, students will also take turn leading and facilitating Collaborate activities.

7. Create

Create Mode is for learners to engage in project based learning, either individually or in small groups.

This is a chance for students to explore their individual interests, learn by doing, and express themselves in a variety of mediums. Create projects cover topics including science, technology, engineering, math, writing, performing, speaking, acting, art, and life skills.

Early Bird Tip: Move Create to 7AM and finish class early. Ask your guide for details.

8. Wrap-up

That's a wrap. At the end of the day, students wrap-up by sharing struggles and successes and lessons learned. Some guides host these discussions as a class, while others encourage students to write down their thoughts in their online journal. Either way, reflection and introspection is a great way to finish a productive day and prepare for the next.
